Look at the Kelty Gunnison.
All of the features of the REI half dome with a much better rain fly IMHO
(and it's backed by Kelty).
I cannot recommend the Alps tents for Philmont. Our Troop purchased 15 Alps
tents as Troop gear 3 months ago. In two campouts, EVERY tent has bent
poles. These tents have all been properly pitched, staked, and guyed
(checked by myself and other experienced leaders). One campout had
sustained winds of 20mph (gusts to 30mph). By the end of that campout, all
poles were bent. I have camped at Philmont where my Kestrel read gusts of
80mph. My Gunnison stood those winds well with no damage. I am not sure
the Alps will do the same if the pole quality is the same.
That said, I greatly appreciate the guys at Alps, the service and discount
they offer to Scouts, and our quartermaster is working with them to replace
the poles.

The boys have been specifically advised that bringing their own tent is
preferable.

Use the free one from Philmont, they have worked great for years.
