[philmont] Suggest a tent

Regarding tents. We are still using REI half domes purchased when my
25 year old was in the 10th grade. The scouts researched tents
extensively before settling on these. They wanted something light,
free-standing, with aluminum poles (we had a plastic pole snap on the
first night out on a weeklong trek and the roll of duct tape in the car
(we were camped close to the trailhead) came in very handy and made
them aluminum pole fans). We got a 10% "corporate" discount on them.

Then I discovered REI's attic sales. The rest of our half domes (we
took two crews in 04) came from those sales. If you live near an REI,
they have sales of rental or returned equipment about quarterly. We
paid less than half price for the last six half domes we purchased.
One had a slight tear in the mosquito netting--duct tape again.
Otherwise, they were just fine--just used. A jar of seam sealer and a
check of the waterproofness of the rain fly and some airing out was all
that was needed.
