Never use fiberglass poles!!!!! Fiberglass poles are one expedition use only. I have six tents and all aluminum poles. Little extra weight, but don't have to worry about breakage. Aluminum can be duct taped back together, sometimes you need to put a twig/plug in both ends but that works. Fiberglass, shatters and is gone.
I have bent aluminum poles, but the major manufactures will quickly replace them. I've sent the email on to the Pres of Alps for a response BTW.

For what it is worth, I have four ALPS tents. Three of them have
been in gusts to 80 mph in Death Valley, Joshua Tree and San Jacinto.
Never a bent or broken pole. Had one staked down and loaded with
gear take flight in Death Valley and travel about 100 yards before
we got it stopped and doubled the number of stakes, though :-).
The fourth tent is a four season, and I only use it for winter
camping and have never had a problem with it either.
I've tended toward the ALPS aluminum poles rather than the
fiberglass poles. Maybe there is a difference?
Can't say the same for kelty and Sierra Design tents. My Alpine
Designs was a piece of junk and my Hillary hasn't done so well
either.
