Pretty interesting conversation about tents. The truth is that all of us "gear geeks" will never be happy with any of our gear and tents are certainly a thing that gets plenty of attention.
For what it's worth, we used the Phil Tents. I would suggest you do the same. Easily split between tent mates, sturdy, easy to put up. We had a good experience with them.
Personally, I started out with the 4-man timberline, tried a kelty 1-man (that's what I took to philmont since I was the odd-man out), a hennesy hammock (best sleeping available) and am currently using the MSR missing link. I would suggest that shelter for a single adult doing Philmont. I use my trecking poles to raise the shelter, plenty of room and very lightweight.
My favorite shelter is my 10x12 silnylon tarp. I use this from Oct through May and it is certainly the roomiest shelter available.
Anyway, a fun discussion to watch.
