I would be very hesitant to set up any tent in the West without at least one
guy line or staking the tent down. I've seen a lot of tents roll or fly
away. I had a tent once fly over 1000 vertically up a cliff face and land on
top. Winds are too much fun out here not to guy every tent.
I put a guy line out on ever tent because the stakes on the tent may not be
solid because you can't move them much. A guy line you can stake well at the
right spot. Even better tie the guy line to a tree.
If you are worried about tent guy lines being in the way, guy them all off
the back. I use reflective guy lines. Makes the tent and lines easy to spot
at night. Works real well after taking a midnight break to find the tent
even in moon light.
I use reflective tape on the tops of all my stakes. Makes them easier to
spot also.
