[philmont] Are Crocs "approved" shoes

Crocs 'slip and slide? I purchased the more expensive model $10 more
than the standard and it has
ventilation holes in the top (important in Texas) and a heel strap with
velcro fasteners.
Usually I have them fastened too tightly, they do not slip and during
an Ice storm in February
I went out on the icy ground with these on and did not slip.
The only problem that I have is that they do not compact so I am sewing
in new pockets on the sides
on my backpack made out of mesh with a trightening strap to tote these
shoes around.

I did speak to a younger friend who did 400 miles of the AT and she
traded her second pair of hiking boots in for her crocs which were her
camp shoes she said that her ankles were sore the first hundred miles
but after that she was fine and the crocs were more resistend to water
and dried faster when wet.
If I had stronger ankles and I did not have Scouts with me then I'd
hike in these in preference to hiking boots.

They
appeared pretty much like the pair of crocs that you can see at
www.crocs.com.
I wonder if the rear strap arrangement is sturdy enough to keep your
foot in the shoe. Probably it is OK in camp but if you needed to use
these on the trail as a backup I wonder how much your feet would slip
and slide in the Crocs. Would a camp shoe which has a complete shoe
upper body be preferable. The camp shoe at
http://www.campshoe.com/feature.asp
is a complete shoe as is the shoe at
http://www.muckbootsonline.com/Edgewater_Camp_Shoes_p/ewcsh.htm. This
type
of shoe may be an alternative worth considering. The two shoes the two

links cited take you to
may not be the only or best choices.
