Think of it as 2 full days of program. And, when frustrated, remind yourself how much of the weight they are carrying. One of the disadvantages of the new burro policy is that you will probably only get one--we were a crew of 9 and had two burros, so they carried 11 pounds of my gear, which makes me remember them perhaps more favorably than otherwise. Our crew named one of our two burros after their favorite staffer at Ponil, "JD". By the time they balked at crossing most streams and tried to push their handlers off the trail (on the down hill side) between Head of Dean and Miranda, they decided JD stood for "juvenile delinquent." My advice is to pick some tasty-looking weeds along the trail and use them as the "carrot and stick" when they begin to lag.
If asked, I would recommend them again. On the other hand, our crew chief for our '08 trek was the youngest scout on our 04 trek and one of those JD tried to push off the mountain. I have the feeling that she may sway the vote against the burros this time around.
