The other advisor for our trek (#27) and I have great trepidation about our working with burros. I am thinking about carrying a bag of carrots to bring out at critical moments for burro motivation. If you google "Philmont" and "burro", the first article is devoted to burro etiquette and will give you some pointers. I especially like the part where, when it is time to get started, you get in front of the animal and put your head down because that it what a lead burro would do. There are also some interesting comparisons of burros to Scouts (and Philmont staffers!) . . . .
