[philmont] Reinventing The Wheel

Prior to my 2006 trek I was torn between Crocs or some other option for
camp shoes. Most of our shakedown backpacks were on the AT and that is
where I first saw Crocs. They were hanging off the pack of pretty much
every through hiker we saw. I tried them when I got home and found them
extremely comfortable, but they are loose fitting and I was looking for
footwear that hugged the foot better and wouldn't fall off if I got
dumped from my kayak during our pre-Philmont "funyak" trip. I settled
on the Boulder by Keen:

I found them extremely comfortable, lightweight, quick drying and they
provide good arch support. They will also accept an orthotic if you
need one. I even used them during rock climbing at Cito ... traction is
excellent.

Bottom line though is, in our crew, some wore Crocs, some wore Keens and
the others wore a variety of sneakers, and everyone was happy with their
choice of camp shoe.
