My first reply to this would have got me thrown off the list...
Come on folks. You are going to carry 12 pounds to make body burn while
dying. Yes, while dying. AED's work because they are close to EMS. Just
because you get the heart started does not mean you can keep it going. You
will need drugs, intravenous drugs if you get the heart started.
And why. What physician is going to allow anyone with a heart problem go to
Philmont? So now you are down to the 1 in the million chances that you run
across a genetic/hereditary issue or a freak. The first is dead, the AED
probably won't work and the second is bad luck.
How many heart attacks has Philmont had that resulted in death anyway? I've
never heard of one the past 10 years.
The only thing an AED is going to do for you on the trail is tell you the
person is not shockable.
