I think likewise for ours!
Though some footnotes on prevention. I think, if not the only way to a
good trail rash, the shortcut is the right mix of chafing/rubbing and
sweat... a nice environment for the bad bits, and an easy way into the
skin. While that's certainly compounded by a lack of cleaning, I've had
some pretty good rashes just the day after a good 10 mile hike that had
obvious chafing on the day of the hike, even after an available shower.
Based on recommendations, I got some BodyGlide, and used that on our
Troop's shakedown last weekend -- somewhere around 18 miles on the
Appachalian Trail (with Philmont++ pack load). After the hike... nothing...
no chafing, not a single foot issue, no rash the next day, etc. I knew
the value of lubing up from running years back, but this stuff is the
next step beyond Vaseline.

I rekon there are three groups here: those who've had it, those who will,
and those who don't actually do any backpacking or long hiking.
