On Tue, 22 May 2007 21:27:17 -0400, "doug marquis" <dmarquis1@comcast.net> jammed all night, and by sunrise was heard saying:
> You've gotten a lot of good advice and some good comments. I'll just add
> this-- "Heck yes! Bring it!"
Yeah, I have pretty much been planning on it... it's gone to all the
shakedowns, I even take it along on our training hikes (these days,
along with all my other Philmont gear and 34lbs in extra weight). But
I'm curious where some Scouts are getting the idea musical instruments
might be prohibited, or even simply frowned upon. I'll follow up with
the Scout in question, could just be something local his his troop.
> I'll second the caution about wear and tear on the trail, though.
Well, yeah, I think that's unavoidable... and also one reason trail
guitars are on the cheap side -- nothing that can't eventually be
replaced. But yeah, I plan to take sensible precautions. I'm all for
lending the guitar, and maybe picking up some tips along the way (I'm
relatively new to guitar, my main instrument for the last 20 years has
been Harmonica and voice... I plan to bring those along, too).
> And Dr. Bob's suggestion about bringing strings is right on the money.
Yeah, that's a great idea.
> (He's also right that the musical culture at the Ranch is a bit different

Also encouraging... from what I've read various places on-line, they
really did seem to have a significant musical culture, and I was looking
forward to that (among lots of other things), so it's good to hear isn't
not vanished.
Thanks all!
