OK, I'm as guilty as the next guy, but wee are missing the point on tent selection.
There was a good discussion here about whether to use PhilTents or bring your own.
One of the things stated was the checkin time saved by not using PhilTents.
Responsibility
Well, Scouting is more than just getting to the top first, hiking the most miles, checking in quickest, going in to town for pizza AND still making it back in time for campfire.
One of the values Scouting teaches is responsilility. Responsibility for cleaning and drying the tent after you use it. That takes time and yes that takes away from some things you could otherwise be doing, but there is value in it.
There is the same value in that as there is in a Scout cooking his own meal instead of his mother going to camp with him to cook it for him.
Consider the above when you decide to use PhilTents or carry your own.
