I agree in letting the boys lead and we did that in 2006. Our getting
into camps later than other crews affected us greatly at Ute Meadows
when we had just about the last choice of a camp site due to a large
crowd and our late arrival. The rain and sleet made it that much of an
experience. It was interesting though as we pulled into our eventual
site and the crew beside us was cleaning up from a bear encounter. I
think after that the boys learned to move on to a site quicker if they
wanted a better choice, but mostly they enjoyed their surroundings
enroute to the camp and took what we could get. Heck, any site at
Philmont is better than the desk we're sitting behind.
