[philmont] Camelbak vs Truck

I usually folllowup on most posts suggesting new or improved equipment.

The water carrying appliance discussion is always interesting and most times amusing as new and improved advisors try to find new and improved equipment. They continuously are looking for the panacea of all equipment, i.e. that which gives an output of 1.5X the input. Pholks there is no such thing as a free lunch.

After viewing the demo of the truck running over the falsly accused Camelbak as being a Platy, is there any question as to why I use Camelbaks exclusively? I use both 70 and 100 oz units. Don't haev a 50 oz. Don't see the purpose of an adult carrying 50 oz but they do have their place with children. They simply work and keep on working. They are not a temporary fix which often breaks down mid trail.

If you wanna see what doesn't work, just dig through a trash can at Philmont.

Remember that Murphy is a card carrying member of all Scout units. If it can be broke, bent or rendered unserviceable, a Scout can accomplish that.

I am also amused with the clean up instruction videos and the discussion of the gunk buildup in hydration bladders. My thought on that one is if you don't wash your hands after going to the bathroom, gunk builds up on you hands too. Enough said.

But why would anyone want to put anythign but water into a hydration bladder in the first place.

Rinse it out when through, dry it out (hair dryer duh!) and store it dry. Simple.
