Great ideas from all. I was planning on circling the outside edge with
the camp patches I visited. I agree that it's too bad they don't have
patches for trail camps. In some way I think the trail camps are my
favorites. There's a sense of accomplishment one gets when you're
camping at a spot that's only accessible by your own two feet. I should
probably leave spaces for my arrowhead patches too so they have a place
when I "Retire" from scouting.
I traced the two routes I traveled in black and red marker.
The crew names is a nice idea, perhaps along with a reduced version of
the crew photo (wallet sized) I also have some 8"x10" photos of my
favorite pics that I'd like to frame and hang near the map. BTW, I
found a very useful utility to size photo JPGs to the dimension of the
print you want. This allows your to adjust the cropping instead of
leaving it up to the service, which usually just centers the cropping.
It's called JPEGCrops (http://ekot.dk/programmer/JPEGCrops/)
I doubt I'd cover it with glass, but maybe Plexiglas. I used a
non-glare Plexiglas on my youth patch display where I mounted my patches
on a dark green matt board using a dab of hot glue. I made a frame out
of cast off Oak Flooring remnants. I toyed with the idea of doing
something similar but using a grey barnwood with maybe a rope boarder
stapled on the edge. A bit cheesy perhaps, but it's my display for my
pleasure to look at so ... what the hey!
Both copies of our "LIFE" I gave to our crew leaders - they deserved it.
I'll see if I can barrow them to scan a copy.
For each trip I selected 100 photos and put them in nice leather bound
photo albums in chronological order. I built two copies of each trek,
one for myself and copy for each of my sons as a Christmas gift. I
found nice suede albums at Target for about $10. I also have a journal
for each trip. I want to print it out on paper the same dimension as
the photo pages and interleave them between the photo sheets.

I used a CLIP frame from MIchaels, included a color copy of our "LIFE"
with a felt bull, camp patches, PHilmont 2007 patch, Duty to God patch,
Mt Philips and Tooth of Time patches. LIsted entire crew names on the
back. The other adult advisor (a navy captain) took right to work to
display in his office.
thanks for all the ideas
