[philmont] heart brand

A while back there was some discussion of the heart brand that is only available at Ponil. The discussion centered on the fact that the brand is the Chase ranch brand. Does anyone know if there is any connection between the heart brand and Hart Peak? I’ve looked through my Philmont related literature and the only Hart reference I can find is Maxwell’s horse trainer. There are a number of references to M. M. Chase and his ranching operations and heirs etc. and Rock Rohrbacher’s Philmanac briefly describes the heart brand in use at Rich Cabins and being acquired by the Chase Ranch. And the Rich Cabins camp patch is in the shape of a heart. But I couldn’t find out if there was any link between the brand and the mountain.

  Just curious that’s all.

Most of the peaks in NM and SE Colorado were named long before the ranching days came into being. don't know the origin of Hart Peak, but based on the above knowledge, I'd say it was in an earlier time frame. Some peaks, Clear Creek comes to mind) have been changed in more recent times to honor people, places or things.

I;m opening pandoras box here, but I'd bet money that the Heart Brand and Hart Peak have absolutely no connection except proximity.
