Greetings Sue,
In answer to your question, my pair of men's size 10 - 11 Crocs weigh in at
18 ounces. FWIW, that is just slightly less than one of my New Balance
running shoes or Teva's. But in the interest of full disclosure, they are
the ones with the holes in the front. They are also slightly more bulky
than the running shoes or sandals as well. I pack my camp shoes in a
plastic grocery bag; that way they don't get dirt on the other stuff in my
pack and when I'm wearing the camp shoes, I can put the bag over my boots to
keep from getting gunk (dirt, sticks, rain, etc.) in my boots.
One thing regarding slippers; I found that on many camp surfaces - pine
needles especially - the name is VERY appropriate because traction can be a
problem. YMMV.
Happy Trails

Subject: [philmont] Croc Question . ..
Okay - so I am returning to Philmont this summer for my second trip as an
advisor. The last time I did not take camp shoes, was lucky and had not
reason to have them, and was fine with my feet. HOWEVER, I am thinking this
time I may need to take something.
With all of that said, can someone tell me how much a pair of crocs actually
weigh? I have been going back and forth between crocs, light weight running
shoes, solid bottom "slippers" etc.
I do not want to get into who thinks what is better, and I agree that if it
says CAMP SHOE it does not mean slipper or flip flop or sandals without any
real substance, but I am trying to decide what style croc people take and
how much they weigh.
Last time out, I was a little lighter than I will be this time - my husband
(the scoutmaster at the time) carried a little more of the load - he is
staying home this year (unless I can convince him otherwise - he wants to go
but business keeps him home) and I'll have to watch how much weight I am
carrying.
Thanks -
