Most crews perform before going.
Our three crew council contingent completed theirs prior to going. That
left the cons project at PSR as the only hours left for the 50 miler, and the
cherished Arrowhead patch.
Our crew worked with a state park and rehabed several hundred yards of trail
at Poinsett State Park (SC) that was otherwise being considered for closure
due to erosion. We put in water bars and trail edges, backfilled erosion
gullies, piled brush in switchback short cuts, etc. The before and after
pictures were awesome. The boys really saw the benefit of teamwork and planning.
The park was extremely grateful and the ranger helped with the planning and
staging of logs for the project.
We did it as part of a weekend shakedown for the crew. Cooked on the
jobsite PhilStyle. We used JetBoils. Two stoves worked well for preparing meals
as a crew. They did NOT use them as individual or buddy cooking systems.

How many crews are performing the 7 hours of trail
service for the 50 Mile award before going to
Philmont?
A nice crew ceremony after the last campfire is to
give the boys their Philmont Arrowhead and the 50 Mile
award.
