Joe Flaig writes (in reponse to a posting by Signe)...

In terms of a Boy Scout Philmont crew, as long as at least one adult has
reached 21, other adults may be 18 or in-between. Not so with Venturing
crews ~ all Venturing advisors need to have reached 21.

The requirement is a bit of a disconnect when you step back and look at
it. Eighteen year-olds can be leaders for a group of younger Scouts but
are not qualified to be leaders for another group whose name is Venturers.
It looks like a tangle due to symantics rather than actual capability.

Just an observation, don't intend to start a long exchange of messages.

Comment...

Exactly - the whole issue of 18 year olds being adults for scouting and
youth for venturing impacts who can tent with who, which shower facilities
to use, and similar issues in additon to adequate (I'm not talking about
capability, just numbers of the right ages) leadership.

Another perennial topic - this is the time of year when the questions
start flying from first time advisors, and those of us who have been on
the list need to respond recognizing that, as well as remembering the
prior raging debates. For instance, I think the turkey bag / not turkey
bag topic was dealt with reasonably - the queston was answered and the
information got out without rehashing the topic to death (or beyond). I
hope other topics get similar treatment.
