[Philmont]: Be kind to newbies

"Amen" to Al Thompson's comment about new list serve participants. I'm
taking a crew to Philmont for a short trek this summer -- my first time back
since 1973 -- and I joined the list serve about a year ago. I have learned
a LOT about things like turkey bags, trekking poles, stoves, the call-in
process, and a wide range of other topics I'm sure are revisited each and
every year. The debates over these topics has clued me in to what to look
for as we try to figure out what will work best for our crew.

This list serve is a valuable resource to newbies like me, and it would be a
shame to deny our kids the collective wisdom of this group simply because we
came to the party late.

Another perennial topic - this is the time of year when the questions
start flying from first time advisors, and those of us who have been on
the list need to respond recognizing that, as well as remembering the
prior raging debates. For instance, I think the turkey bag / not turkey
bag topic was dealt with reasonably - the queston was answered and the
information got out without rehashing the topic to death (or beyond). I
hope other topics get similar treatment.
