As far as SM (or Crew Leader) minutes while on the trail, I would also suggest
that this could also fall under the "job description" of the Chaplain Aide.
Philmont provides crews with a good resource, Eagles Soaring High, that has
themed inspirational messages quite well adapted to the Philmont experience.
