Brad,
It is mandandtory that you carry Polar Pure with your crew. However, how you
deal with purification is up to the crew. Our crews prefer to use the "First
Need" purifiers, and they work well for us. We use them on almost all of our
trips, so our Scouts are used to them. We do use a prefilter, which is a
coffee filter, when we are pumping from really dirty water. We had no
problems during our trek using them. Don't buy them from a big store like
REI. Search the internet, and you can find them for half what REI charges.
