We had a Polar Pure strategy that we felt worked well. We purified water as a group in large Platypus containers and "strongly discouraged" any personal purification. One adult was assigned to observe all purifying activities each time it was done.
Anyone interested in details on this system can contact me off the list, unless enough interest dictates posting.

You are not required to use Polar Pure, but you are required to take it with you. No matter what. The taste isn't really that noticeable, and if you can taste it, well that is why they give you some much extra drink mix. More of just an inconvenience to have to wait the time required.

Is it manditory at Philmont to use Polar Pure , or can you use another brand with the iodine taste nutralizer so the water tastes better?
