         Bill, we did try to give others a chance last year.

         After filling up our Crews in 2000 after we got thru and having a
substantial waiting list on our Crews, we suddenly had folks dropping after
a years notice that they would actually need to pay money on X dates in
2001! Can you image that? Philmont costing $$??!!

         Anyway, faced with multiple openings on all three Crews (2 Treks
and 1 Cavalcade), I broadcast here heavily and in the Council and District
websites, plus posted the openings on Scouts-L. I got a few responses and
picked up some "guests" to go along with us (this is a whole new thread,
let me tell you), but still went to Philmont.

         If there are Scouts and adults that truly want to go, beat the
bushes for an opening. They're out there every year and many go unfilled.
