We had someone get through after over 1 1/2 hours so we are way down on
the waiting list. We were able to go in 2001 for the first time and now
have missed out on 2003 and 2004. Am I disappointed? Yes, for those
member of our Troop that have not gone and may not get the chance.
One thing that occurred to me as I spent the time dialing was all the
wasted effort by members of our Troop and Troops and Crews across the
country. We had 10 people calling. I know that other troops and crews
have multiple people calling. Anybody want to guess at the number of
hours spent? Imagine some of the things that could be accomplished if
all those hours were spent doing something constructive for scouting
rather than pushing a redial button. For this reason alone, it is time
to change the system that Philmont uses for allocating treks.
