After long last, the 2002 Philmont Advisor's Guide is done. This unofficial
publication, is a compelation of information and experiences from a host of
experienced advisor, many of whom are on this list. It seeks to assist the
first time advisor, as well as the one who is returning after several years,
in preparing their crews for a Philmont trek. The Guide is 84 pages single
spaced and covers a host of topics including pre-trek training, selecting a
trek, personal and crew gear, surviving Day One, cooking and cleanup, bears,
map and compass, bears, co-ed crews as well as others.
The Guide is the principal fundraiser for Venturing Crew 1519. This summer
the crew will be sending one group to Philmont and another to Nord Jam 2003
in Iceland. We ask for a $10 donation per copy of the Guide made.
