Our troop had a very successful trip to the Great Smokey Mountains
maybe four years ago, well before my son was qualified to go. And
it's only an 8 hr drive+/- ? from you. Be REAL certain of your bear
procedures, though.

| What now? We were lucky enough to go last summer and it was everything it
| was supposed to be and everything I remembered from my youth. We have a
| smallish troop of about 25 - 30 boys with an even smaller core of older
| boys. In years past, all our scouts have lost interest after Philmont and
| this has hurt our troop. We are trying to keep our core of older boys
| active and interested but are having trouble getting them excited about the
| (or a) next high adventure outing. Yes we know about SeaBase (full for this
| summer), Maine (very mixed reviews), Northern Tier (???). None of these
| items seems to get much reaction or interest. We are currently
| investigating the Adirondacks.
|
| The question is, does anyone have any great high adventure trips they want
| to recommend? This needs to be tempered by our location (Mid-Atlantic) and
| economic realities.
|
| If this is a topic not suited for this list, please contact me off-line with
| any ideas.
