Beware of the things people tell you are mandatory at Philmont.
Things are very reasonable (you have a lot of free will) no matter
how much some demand conformity:-)
I've seen every type of tent there, but there is good reason to stay
away from one person tents. Anything a bear can accidentally
straddle is bad. Really Bad!
I prefer to use personal tents during work-ups to workout any
glitches before arriving. Train as you Trek. Not required though.
I've had to use Philmont Tents at the last minute due to equipment
problems (the POLES ARE WHERE!!!!!), and it made little difference
to the boys.

Subject: [Philmont]: TENTS AT PHILMONT??
I've heard different info regarding tents at Philmont. I have a
NORTHFACE PEBBLE 2man tent I would like to take, instead of using
theirs. Is this allowable or not? I've heard you can take your own
as long as it's 2 man; and then I've heard everyone has to have the
same tent style and color. Can anyone shed light on thIs subject?
Not everyone in my crew will have their own, or be able to get their
own, and will be using Philmonts.
