Funny how life works. In '70 I went to Philmont as a Scout. Simply put, it
changed my life.
In '98 my son joined Troop 1701. I "tagged along" and became the High
Adventure ASM. Back then the Troop had no HA program <g>. Undaunted, we put
together a plan that led our crew to Sea Base and Northern Tier. Great
places to be sure but the best was still to come.
Last summer I was blessed to take a crew, including my son, back to
Philmont. Many of you know just how special that opportunity is. In
preparation for that trip I've become a frequent reader of this forum; we've
benefited greatly from the information and insights that have been posted.
What does this have to do with '04? The Detroit Area Council HA Chairman is
retiring after 15 years of volunteer service. They noticed our HA program
and asked me to succeed him. It'll be my privilege to lead a 5-crew
contingent next July. Goes without saying I'll be monitoring this forum --
learning never stops.
