I went to Philmont last summer. I was 125 LB and six feet tall. I carried a 40 LB pack and had no trouble with it. I was clearly over the weight limit pack-wise and under the weight limit size-wise, but was only slightly sore for the first two days. I did not pack uneccessary things and was concientious about what I took. All those things just add up to heavy packs. I would not have been able to get my pack down to 25 LB without leaving many things that I needed behind or buying all new state-of-the-art equipment.
