Good point Josh, A lot of kids/leaders are still needing to purchase gear for the first time. It is very important that they buy the lightest equipment that they can afford that will do the job intended.

Try to focus on the big three for the biggest gains in weight reduction. The pack, bag, and shelter. If you try to keep the total in the 10 to 12 lb range it will go a long ways towards keeping the load manageable. I would like to see the pack and bag under 3 lb each and the tent under 5 for a two person.

These are the most expensive and the least likely to be replaced with lighter
counterparts.

Jimmie
I would not have been able to get my pack down to 25 LB without leaving many things that I needed behind or buying all new state-of-the-art equipment.

  Josh
