This mailing list has been relatively quiet for the past four to six weeks
so I want to make a request.
I have approved 54 new subscriptions since October 1, and the current number
of subscriptions is 740. We all like to discuss anything Philmont and the
best discussions start with questions about preparing for next year's
camping or training programs. <snip>

Having spent a year enjoying the Canoe List prior to our three crews
canoeing up at Sommers this past summer, I have been surprised by how quiet
the Philmont list seems in comparison. Perhaps it was the constant dialog
from a few opinionated individuals that make the canoe list seem livelier.

Comments....
I've been on this list for almost five years and have never seen it this
quiet this long. As the long time members know, there is a yearly cycle to
topics, and the topic for the fall traditionally has been the phone-in for
reservations two years out. The change to the Internet lottery system cut
that off (finally!) and I haven't seen a single comment about any problems
with registering for 2005 treks (that might change when the results come
out...)
Anyway, even with the recent inactivity, there have been almost 300 digests
issued this year on this list, compared to about 120 on the Canoe list. And
the digests on this list generally have more messages, so hold on to your
hat, Marty. But of course, no one on this list is opinionated. Right!
Regarding Rich's request, our troop is providing the majority of two crews
in the sixteen crew Patriots' Path contingent, and I am very involved in
helping them start preparing. I am also involved from the council side in
the preparation of all sixteen crews. But no summer trek for me this year,
though I will be heading to Philmont in September for another Autumn
Adventure. Presently we have a crew plus of 15 (more than half repeaters
from one or both of our prior trips). We are planning a weeklong trek in
the North, including a climb of Baldy.
