RE: [Philmont]: Backpacks

My son and I rented from Philmont in 2002. As I recall, they were Kelty
Tioga's or Super Tioga's (I'm pretty sure they were Super.) I believe
they were 4,500+ cubic inches. They worked fine for us. You will
probably get a lot of advice about being personally fitted for a
backpack, and breaking it in during training. My experience was that
the smaller packs we own were fine for our training hikes, and we had no
problem with the rented packs during our time at Philmont. We
definitely needed the extra space to carry food and our share of crew
gear.

Subject: [Philmont]: Backpacks

Apparently Philmont will rent external framed packs. I have 2 adults
that are considering renting. Has anyone had an experience with these
packs? Condition? Size? Comfort? I would think that if they are
available at Philmont, they would be big enough, and in 10 day useage
condition, but don't want to find out otherwise once we get there.
Anyone shed light on this?
