Get COOP's Advisor guide. Email me if you can not find it. It's
been my $10/advisor bible for three Contingents.
Here's my opinion.
SB Degree rating: mine was 20, others had 40. Your call, expect one
night of freezing temps.
Raingear: Suits only (lots of reasons) breathable is best since it
rains lightly for days at times.
Smellables: Keep sleeping clothes in your sleeping bag stuff sack
(in a Ziploc)
Camera: Does not matter. Check any digital to make sure its not a
power hog and you have memory for 36 shots per day. Doable, but
sometimes easier with film. Cut to CD and have developer publish on
the web so anyone can pull them down. One of my crews took a video
camera last time and make our own movie. Had to beg recharge from
staff camps.
Coop's Advisors Guide, buy it!

Subject: [Philmont]: equipment needs (suggestions??)
I am the Contingent leader for our 9 boys and 3 adults. Can anyone
give
me suggestions on how to help our boys and myself prepare. First
timer
and have wanted to go since I was a Scout myself. I can't wait!!!
What temperature rating for a sleeping bag would be most suitable
for
Philmont in the month of June (we start the first week)?
Raingear - Gore-Tex, vinyl, poly, rubber, rainsuits, ponchos?? What
is
acceptable and what will not work.
Smellables - the large Zip-Loc bags, will they work to store your
sleeping clothes and keep them relatively scent free?
Photos - Digital photos or digital video camera?
I know i'm being somewhat vague, but I'm trying to learn now to pass
on
info to the boys. And learn as much as I can to make this a great
experience for us all.
Thanks for your responses in advance. (more questions to come)
YiS,
Anthony Helpenstell
