All great suggestions. Couple of notes.

Beware of lexan bowls. My boys buy the green ones. They burn their
hands, spill. Good material, bad execution. I use Ziplock Brand
semi-rigid containers. Handle boiling water, lighter than lexan,
stay cool enough to hold with soup:-)

Get a LEXAN SPORK:-)

Look at Outdoor Research Advanced Hydroseal Stuff Sacks. Work
similarly to a drybag. Mine never leaked even canoeing. Bring your
bag when you buy. Too big or small limits effectiveness.

Comments...

Lexan bowls - never had problems with ours (the dark blue ones, though I
doubt the color makes a difference).

OR stuff sacks - get one a size or two larger than you need for your
sleeping bag so it can carry your sleep clothes, long underwear, etc.

And echoing from Coop's original post, this is the time to be looking at
equipment as holiday gifts. Patriots' Path Council also starts with the
Advisors in November - one topic is the "four expensive essentials"
(though it is too soon to be buying boots for a youth who's feet are
growing).
