[Philmont]: Alternatives to Philmont, Boundary Waters

I apologize for this being off topic. There was quite a thread awhile back
about Boundary Waters as an alternative to Philmont when you aren't lucky
in the lottery. There was some discussion of cost--outfitter vs. BSA. I
just wanted to pass on that I got a brochure from the outfitter we used in
2003. His youth price (per person) for the complete package for a 7 day, 6
night trip, with a mid-week departure and a group of 10 or more people is
$340. Adults are $75 more. This is for food, aluminum canoes, paddles,
PFDs, tents, sleeping bags, pads, stove, cookset and packs. I don't know
how this compares with the BSA price and if you would like more details,
just drop me a line?

I'd also like to use this message as a plug for the Denver Area Council
Alpine Adventure and Tahosa Trek programs as another alternative to
Philmont as well. While you don't have the program that Philmont has, you
still get a high-altitude backpacking experience that can be more tailored
to your specific needs. And, it is less expensive. You have probably seen
the ad in recent issues of Scouting magazine. You can get more details at
http://www.denverareacouncil.com/council/camps/tahosa.htm
