off topic too
We went to Northern Tier in Bissett, Manitoba CANADA. Since our trek
started on JUNE 24, BSA takes 10% off of the Fee. (any trek before July
1st was 10% off) Our trek also included all the stuff mentioned below:
canoes, tents, food, all gear................
Our 8 day, 7 night trek was about $320 (float plane was another $115 extra,
but a real treat).
I think that anyone who signs up for Northern Tier 2005 gets a guarenttee of
PHILMONT in 2007............a long time to wait, but a FOR SURE Philmont
trek.

>I apologize for this being off topic. There was quite a thread awhile back
>about Boundary Waters as an alternative to Philmont when you aren't lucky
>in the lottery. There was some discussion of cost--outfitter vs. BSA. I
>just wanted to pass on that I got a brochure from the outfitter we used in
>2003. His youth price (per person) for the complete package for a 7 day, 6
>night trip, with a mid-week departure and a group of 10 or more people is
>$340. Adults are $75 more. This is for food, aluminum canoes, paddles,
>PFDs, tents, sleeping bags, pads, stove, cookset and packs. I don't know
>how this compares with the BSA price and if you would like more details,
>just drop me a line?

>I'd also like to use this message as a plug for the Denver Area Council
>Alpine Adventure and Tahosa Trek programs as another alternative to
>Philmont as well. While you don't have the program that Philmont has, you
>still get a high-altitude backpacking experience that can be more tailored
