At Philmont, I wash (or rinse) my socks and liners every day at the end
of the hike and dry them. At bedtime, I take the moist to wet socks and
wear them inside the sleeping bag. They will be dry by around 3am. The
liners will be dry by 11pm. The nice thing about wool is that it warms
when it is wet.

Subject: [Philmont]: Sock Dryer

I found this on backpacker.com and have never heard of doing this. Has
anyone ever tried it?

"Bring two half-liter bottles.
Not just for water, but for drying socks at night. You'll want the
narrow,
Lexan type because you're going to fill them with boiling water and roll
your wrung-out socks over them. The odors unleashed might make a skunk
gag,
but by morning your socks will be dry."

If it works it might be a smart way to have dry feet if caught on a trek
with lots of rain.

Thanks,

Jim Williams
