I'm afraid THAT would be considered a "smellable".
Seriously, there are no "down sides" to it. The water would not need to
be purified and would be OK to drink afterward, so no waste. It would
use fuel. It just seems like a lot of trouble when, if you have brought
sufficient socks, and unless you have zero chance to dry wet ones by
hanging them on a pack / line to dry, it's better to just don a pair of
clean dry ones.
