Happy Thanksgiving to All. The latest issue of High Country (the
Magazine of the Philmont Staff Association) has John B. Westfall's
second song "The Old Philmont Trail" included. [John, you may recall,
wrote the Philmont Hymn in 1947 while a Staffer at Visto Grande Camp.]
There is a nice associated article as well, indicating that he wrote
this song also in 1947, also while serving at Visto Grande. There are
plans to incorporate the song into Philmont campfires this coming summer.
I requested and received permission from the PSA to reproduce the song
in this forum. The chords are included, but of course I do not know the
tune (yet); note also that the chord placements seem a little odd to me,
and it's possible the proportional spacing in the magazine was improper
- I won't know til I hear it.
The song may not be reproduced in any other forum without the written
permission of the PSA.
