PTC New for 2006 From the Philmont Staff Association
October 2005 High Country Magazine
The Philmont Training Center plans changes to its method of inviting
participants with the goal of boosting attendance in the 2006 season. In
past years, local councils have been asked to submit names of volunteers to
be invited to specific courses. This year, councils have simply been asked
to submit names of volunteers to be invited to attend any PTC course of
their choice. Philmont will then extend the invitation, the Scouter can
select a course and time that is best suited for him or her, and the
council executive staff has only to approve the application instead of
having to try to match volunteers with specific courses.
In addition, forty councils are participating in a special program in which
invitations will automatically be extended to all of their executive board
members, district committee leader ship, commissioners, committee chairmen,
unit leaders, assistant unit leaders, and chartered organizational
representatives. An estimated 100,000 invitations are expected to go out as
part of this pilot program.
