Agreed, Roy.
People coming to this board, every one of us, Phil-Vet or first-timer,
must accept the responsibility for controlling group behavior while in a
backcountry setting. Oh sure, there is the occasional "horror story" of
a group behaving so badly at Philmont that they are yanked off the
trail, but most misdeeds never get to that point. Once on the trail,
each crew is self-sufficient from a do-the-right-thing perspective.
"Off topic"? We may not be discussing the (IMHO) thoroughly discussed
topics such as trek poles, gore-tex or not, or water purification, etc.,
etc., but this is a topic that is VITAL for all of us who hold the
special trust and confidence that the parents place upon us as they give
us their children. And not just at Philmont.
And we can all use a bit of reminding of that from time to time. In my
opinion.
Now, do I need to get gore-tex boots for Philmont? Jkjkjk
