Low Impact and LNT are fundamental to the Philmont experience. This is
probably the most germane thread that I have been following on this list serve.
If we, as leaders, do not preach, teach and practice these principles then we
have failed our scouts. The Philmont experience epitomizes LNT. If you
have your scouts master these basic techniques then half the work for your
Philmont expedition is done. LNT should be taught at your crew meetings and
practiced on your training hikes. Anyone not wishing to adhere to them should be
removed from the crew (a novel idea- signing a LNT pact as part of your
Philmont crew agreement). It is all about the discipline involved in doing
something the right way.
