"FWIW" - For all of the multi-Crew Contingents I have run, it was my
firm recommendation to the Scouts that they act like they were all in
one Troop, and self-divide according to physical abilities first. That
is, by Trek difficulty. So all the gorillas in one Crew, all the
semi-gorillas in the next, all the budding gorillas in the next, and so
on. This was AFTER everyone had received a full education on what they
were getting into (slide shows, descriptive narratives, etc.). For the
most part, this worked out pretty well, and the Crews formed
irrespective of the Troop affiliation. My last three Crew Contingent
(Scouts and Leaders from 5 different Troops, but all from north
Arlington (my neighborhood), not Council wide), the gorillas took 30,
the semi-gorillas took 32, and the budding gorillas took 24. Everyone
was happy ahead of time, and more importantly everyone was very happy
afterwards with the way things worked out.
