RE: [Philmont]: Gear Questions

#2 Branding boots is fine, although do keep in mind that the brand often
invalidates any warranty on the boots (good thing to let parents know before
hand)

#3 Trash bags make great raingear in an emergency--keep in mind, a teenage
emergency can range from losing a rainjacket, to burning a huge hole in it,
to the raingear in question being windgear.

another post: good point about the info being written on the water bottles.
They are one of the most common lost and found items at a camp. On the
plus side, if we ever encountered a scout at our camp who had lost a water
bottle, we pulled an unmarked bottle from our lost and found and gave it to
them with a provision that he turn it in to the lost and found at base camp.
(It reached there by the scout as soon as it would have by truck, and we
hoped that the prior owner got another at a camp down the road--kind of a
roundabout way to pass on a good turn. Plus, it was a good way to prevent
dehydration. Of course, we sterilized it first.)
