I agree that a custom CSP is a great thing to do, but $3.55 is way too much
to
pay for it. There are lots of more economical alternatives, such as
Krelman.com.
Classb.com is great on prices for shirts, but their patch prices are a bit
out of
line, IMHO.
WIth a typical council contingent, along with sales for fundraising, I would
be
surprised if you couldn't manage to get to the price break for 100 or even
200 patches. That will likely cut your per patch price almost in half.
Most of the embroidery companies I have dealt with don't charge extra for
having different border colors. That is a very easy way to distinguish
between
contingent personal patches and souvenier patches. Gold border for the
contingent, red border for the "special edition" fundraiser, Black border
for
the advisers and crew leaders, etc.
Also, you can save a bunch by accepting
having a twill primary color rather than fully embroidered without really
affecting the appearance of the patch. If I have a lot of sky or water in
a patch, I'll typically have that in the twill material so that it actually
is
textured differently than the rest of the patch to good effect. I had a
patch
made for a council activity that was mostly sky, so I used a light blue
twill
background color and it saved almost 50 cents a patch.
In our council, unit contingents aren't allowed to make their own custom
CSP's, btw. Only the council allows themselves to do that. I don't know
about other council's policies.

Don Roberts
