MessageI'll agree with what Ched wrote. I know REI will replace boots if you're not satisfied. Didn't know that about L.L. Bean. With that said, assuming the boots fit fine, the chances are slim of needing a warranty replacement. Branding the boots is a personal decision that not everyone will want to do. Those that do will always have a memorable piece of Philmont.
I won't comment on the practice of returning boots for full credit after using them after a year. That's for a different time.

Obviously, it's a personal decision whether or not to brand boots, but those of us who did get them branded are glad that we did. (And yes, we branded the boots knowing that the warranty was voided. The chance of utilizing the warranty on a pair of boots is quite slim anyway.)
...unless your boots are from a full-satisfaction establishment like REI or LL Bean. My Bean boots (gore-tex Vasque leather model) took two tries to get the size right, and the first pair had a year of hard wear on them before I finally figured out why boots that were well-broken in and felt comfortable were giving me blisters, but only on the longest hikes. Bean exchanged 'em without a whimper.
