Gore-Tex is not a fabric, it is a chemical layer that is bonded (quasi) to
the fabric. The fabric, 90% of the time is nylon. The nylon may not be
damaged, but there is no way to tell if the Gore-Tex is damaged.

With Gore-Tex clothing you can wash it in a Gore-Tex friendly detergent
(sold at specialty outdoor retailers by Granger and Nikiwax) and then
reapply the Gore-Tex then dry to re-spread the Gore-Tex out. (The second
application stuff is sold by Gore-Tex, Granger and Nikiwax.)

I do not know if that would work on boots and I suspect the heat would
affect the glue in the boots.

Several of us had our boots branded at Beaubien this past summer. Most, if
not all, of the boots were Goretex lined and the brand caused no damage to
the inside of the boot. I can see damage happening if the brand is applied
to the boot longer than it should, but care is taken to avoid that.
