Here's an interesting article appearing in the Sangre de Cristo Chronicle
about North Ponil Creek and Middle Ponil Creek water quality.

CIMARRON Many people may think of the Valle Vidal as one of the last
pristine, untouched places in New Mexico. But a few of the creeks that flow
from the wilderness and the fish that inhabit them are still reeling from
the affects of bygone booms, busts and the more recent ravages of a massive
wildfire.

North Ponil Creek and Middle Ponil Creek both originate in the high hills of
the Carson National Forests Valle Vidal Unit before converging to form
Ponil Creek to the north of Cimarron and eventually flowing into the
Cimarron River........
